The Booth Wedding

This story began with our friend Kat getting engaged to her boyfriend Tom, she called us and we also said yes!

They got married at a cute little church just round the corner from her parents lovely big house where they also held the reception. The combination of pretty locations, decor, beautiful old Volvo, and the fun everyone seemed to be having made this wedding a joy to film.

On this shoot our second camera operator used a handy little vintage camera emulator app on the iPhone called 8mm. These shots were a great option in the edit to cut to, the decor of the wedding really suited a retro film look and I think it added a great extra dynamic. Protip: I’ve since found out if you film on the standard iPhone camera, you can then go in and edit that file within 8mm and you come out with a better quality video as 8mm shoots in lower resolution with it’s own camera.

I used a lot of time-lapse shots in this film to capture the busyness and energy of the wedding. I basically put my camera on a tripod and stood behind it and took a shot every 10 seconds or so. I’ve since learnt that better idea is to put Magic Lantern on your camera and turn on the intervalometer, then go make yourself a cup of tea. To make the finished time-lapse, I import all the photos into After Effects, import as a jpeg sequence, colour correct it to be as neutral as possible, then re-scale to fit 1920 x 1080 and add warp stabiliser.
Here we are importing footage at the buffet table :)

With every project I try out new techniques, I try and improve my skill set and find better ways of creating pieces that my clients can keep going back to for the rest of their lives, and notice cool little details. The more creative and the more efficient you become as a professional, the better you can serve your client and make their dreams a reality.

From the bride:
"We have literally just sat stunned by it. So amazing....You guys have done such an amazing job, I actually can't believe how good it is. Exactly what we wanted!”
