The Metcalfe Wedding

My latest job was a really special wedding, The Metcalfe Wedding in lovely Liverpool. So much thought and effort into every little detail, you've got to love an organised bride! Booked a clean 10 months before the big day; the happy couple went for the Luxury Package with the separate vows and speeches videos.

I was able to take a second camera man; our Marketing whizz Smart who I'm sure you'll hear a lot more from, so along with being able to deliver seperate multi angle vows and speeches videos, he took some cool pictures of me! So no noisy iPhone selfies for this case study!

The Metcalfes booked us for the full Luxury Package so it meant we made full separate videos of the speeches and the vows. Which all sounds pretty straight forward, but with a registrar who liked rolling through the sections of the service without pause for breath and an MC with a penchant for random poems and non-existent seaways, we had our hands full. When you're covering the vows and speeches with two cameras you've always got the other camera to fall back on if your subject makes a sudden move, luckily we were able to catch everything we needed. Without the extra camera operator we might not have been so lucky, it would also have made the separate vows and speeches video super static and flat.

Filming these events is always a balance of being too visible and getting the angle you need. In this particular ceremony the registrar was being very picky about having a camera in the aisle. When it came time for the actual vows we had to rush a camera and tripod into the central aisle to get a decent angle of the bride, groom and registrar. This is very common, with vicars and registrars you have to be very careful how you deal with them, this takes a lot of patience, you have to placate them and keep them sweet but also make sure you get your shots. I had to negotiate on the spot to keep her happy that health and safety rules were being observed but also making sure my client would be happy with the shots as you only have one shot at this! The worst case scenario is having an angry vicar or registrar taking up their grievances with the groom about the videographer right before the service! In the past I have had to pretend that my stills camera wasn't a video camera, I've had to hide behind pillars, and also recently got my photographer friend to sneakily shoot some vows through a window! Thankfully in this case everything worked out fine.

From the bride: "You can probably tell from the views we have watched it a ridiculous amount of times already! Andrew it is amazing!!! We absolutely love it!! It captures the day perfectly and the music is such a great fit! I'll come back to you in a day or two with a couple of tweaks, but for now it's on repeat in the living room.....thank you!"
