The Barbary Wedding
What a beast of a venue! This wedding had it's ceremony and reception at Malton Hall in Nottinghamshire, designed by the same guy that did the hotel at London St. Pancras. Made for some epic external time-lapse shots. The weather for the day was pretty unfair as the couple wanted an outside ceremony but had to settle for holding the 'hand fasting' ceremony under a leafy arch in a majestic great hall.
Our first humanist or spiritualist wedding came with it's own unique problem: two ceremonies back to back in adjacent rooms! This meant we had all the time in the world to set up in the first room, but zero set up time in the second and the couple finished one and went through a door straight into another!
Also the groom was not comfortable with being mic-ed up, and as neither of these ceremony venues had mics or a PA system, the audio was tough. Basically the worst possible scenario for wedding audio! I managed to hide my Zoom h1 pretty close to the bride and groom on the floor but with the softly spoken couple and other noise sources close by (feet shuffling, coughing), it was tough. I do have microphones on both of my cameras, but without a PA, your audio is going to be rough!
My advice to any couples looking for a wedding venue is please make sure you get a PA for the ceremony and the speeches, not only will your video turn out great, your guests will be able to hear what's going on!
